Deluxe Birthday Cake

A delicious (to dogs) taste treat
with liver and cheese


1 large egg
1 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup unbleached wheat flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup yellow corn meal
3 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded cheddar, colby, jack, or swiss
1 to 1 1/2 cups cooked minced beef liver or other meat

(We made the cake for a recent bithday with browned ground venison and some cheddar and gruyere we had on hand.)

Prepare a nine inch round or square cake pan with non-stick vegetable spray or a light coating of vegetable oil. Preheat oven to 400º F.

Combine egg, water, honey, oil, shredded cheese and chopped meat; set aside. In a separate bowl combine white flour, whole wheat flour, corn meal, baking powder, and salt; mix well. Add dry ingredients to liquids; mix well to combine. Pour into cake pan.

Bake approximately 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick or straw inserted into the middle of the cake comes out fairly dry. Let the cake sit for five minutes; turn out on a cake rack and allow to cool. Texture of cake will be dense and moist.

Serve in small wedges or squares. Great for special occasions or training treats.
Freezes well.
