About
Rusalka
As a child I had Lakeland Terriers. I saw a Borzoi at the Ox Ridge Kennel Club Show and knew that some day I’d have a Borzoi of my own. I acquired my first Borzoi in 1979 and was soon “head over heels” for this most beautiful and aristocratic of breeds.
I spent several years researching the breed and obtained my
foundation stock. The first Rusalka-bred litter was born
in 1983, and although I had a small-scale breeding program,
I've had the good fortune to have owned or bred USA National
and/or Regional Specialty Best In Show, Specialty point
winners, Sweepstakes, Award of Merit, and Hound Group winners.
Three Rusalka-bred Borzoi completed the requirements for
their ASFA Field Championship.
In 1998 our first Whippet joined the family. Our first homebred litter produced three champions, two of whom are multiple group placers, owner-handled. I've turned my attention to working with this versatile, medium-sized sighthound and
anticipate many years of enjoyment with the Whippets.
In 2002 I co-bred a litter with Shelley Kruger, Fanfare Whippets. The "driving" litter has
done well in the ring, at racing, and in other activities and I continue to
enjoy collaborating (and just having fun) with my good friend, Shelley.
I’ve had the privilege of judging seven Borzoi Sweepstakes and one Whippet Sweeps
competition over the years. In 2004 I had the honor of judging the Borzoi
Club of America National Specialty Futurity competition.
Although
I'm no longer engaged in an active Borzoi breeding program,
I have
supported the breed and
the Borzoi Club of America as the former BCOA Member Education Chair and the
BCOA web site administrator and AKC Gazette
Borzoi Breed columnist from 1995 through 2005.
